Hakgojae Gallery is pleased to present The day of dazzling from July 17 to August 17, 2024. KIM Sundoo is expanding the horizons of Korean painting through multifaceted experiments. He uses the traditional ‘jangji’ technique, which involves layering multiple layers of paint on dense, sturdy sheet of jangji paper to create color, to add depth to his works. He combines the traditional techniques of Oriental painting with modern sensibilities to create a unique style that opens up new possibilities for Korean painting.
KIM Sundoo brings the delicate beauty of nature into the exhibition with serene yet intense colors. The repetitive application of paint allows the colors to deeply permeate the paper, maximizing their vibrancy and creating an immersive experience for the viewer. His work goes beyond merely capturing the beauty of nature, but also contains thoughts on the relationship between humans and nature, and life and art. In addition to landscape paintings, the exhibition will also feature a series of “Beautiful Days” depicting figures such as athletes and poets. The series poetically expresses the dreams and goals of each character, and the emptiness and void left behind after the moment of achievement. Themes of life and death, hope and despair, beauty and emptiness intersect, prompting viewers to reflect on the essence of life.
